Richard asked:

How can I train my dog to not run outside and terrorize the neighborhood every time the front door opens? She’s learned to stay during training sessions, but she loses all her training when distracted by all the freedom awaiting her in the front yard.

The key prescription medicine is to continue the training at home. Just because you take them to classes doesn’t mean they will retain what they are taught. The best thing to do is practice the stay command at home regularly. When she is focused on you and staying properly be sure to reward her. The minute you open the door and her attention goes there then you need to shut the door and bring her attention back to you again. Keep eye contact with her and I know its awkward to greet a guest while your looking at your dog but they will understand. A few doors shut on your friends is better than your dog darting out the door and possibly getting hit by a car.
