Advice for rescue/search dog training?
King asked:
Serious answers only please. Im in michigan and would like to train my dog for search and rescue. I only found one group in michigan, and they dont seem to be very organized. How should i begin to train her on my own now, and do you know of any groups in Michigan.

Just for starters, have someone take his food and hide while he watches…..then give him the “search” command and have him pull you there. Have as many different people as possible do this. And only at feeding time…I’m not talking treats. When he finds the person, he gets his meal. After a couple weeks, don’t let him watch the person hide….but keep it easy. Slowly stretch the distance and change terrain often. Always lots of praise when he finds them.
If he has good ball drive, do the same routine with the ball….or whatever his favorite toy is.
Eventually, you’ll need a SAR group to work with, but this will keep it fun and exercise his nose!

why dont all of u negative assholes shut the hell up, so what if the title was wrong, the video was good. To put the time and training into that routine is outstanding. excellent video.
It depends on where you live. The resources are actually few and far between. It also depends on whether you want to do live S&R or a cadaver dog. (I think that the dog has to be trained live first.)- You should be able to google canine search and rescue by state.
Or, if you have an S&R team associated with any of your local law enforcement agencies, you could check with them.
I looked into this, because my boy's dad was an S&R dog, and they usually won't take you on unless the dog is VERY young.
What an AWESOME TRIBUTE TO ALL OF YOU–You are truly amazing- Both 4 legged and 2 legged–(smiles). THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO! YOU ARE MOST DEFINITELY GOD’S SPECIAL!!

the dog may be trying to protect you and your boyfriend, noe that he cares for you. Try letting someone else introduce the dog to other dogs.
What a worthless video. You only told us you can’t help us. Way to go. Yet another reason I hate expert village and all the dog trainers who find their way to you.
